Solema consolidates the quality of the Robotics Division

Solema also consolidates its leadership in the Robotics Division thanks to a crucial contract with Imprimerie Chirat, a protagonist in the French Graphic Arts market

Below we report a message from Luca Parsani, CEO of Solema:

«I step on the first news of the year to wish everyone a happy 2024. For us at Solema, the year that has just ended was an important and satisfying one, which saw numerous projects took place, including the recent finalization of an order signed with Imprimerie Chirat, our long-standing French customer, which has decided to rely on us once again, this time for the purchase of a fleet of machines comprising a series of robotic systems including three robots and a Cobot. This acquisition certifies the quality of our Robotics Division, which has been part of Solema's core business for several years. Inside the news you will find the details of this important acquisition».

LUCA PARSANI - CEO DI SOLEMA

A technological development that synthesizes/blends perfectly with our history

In recent years, technological development in the Graphic Arts industry has led to design increasingly innovative solutions based on the use of Anthropomorphic Robots.

This natural evolution of the market synthesizes perfectly with the history of Solema: the first company to spread automation in the Graphic Arts sector and for over 40 years an absolute point of reference for the continuous demands of the market, with the best solutions in the field of industrial automation.

A success consolidated over the years, and which has led to an indisputable global leadership in our specific sector.

The Robotics Division, a piece that further expands our unique machine portfolio

Strengthened by this renowned leadership and following a precise commercial strategy pursuing the evolution of a more and more dynamic market, Solema decided a few years ago to lay the foundations for a third Division called Robotics, a piece that naturally integrates with the other two existing divisions: Graphicart and Paperboard.

A further commitment from Solema, which thus guarantees a unique range of solutions in the automation for the Graphic Arts and Packaging sectors.

In our role as a global partner alongside customers in the Graphic Arts sector, we have concentrated our efforts on the design and development of robotic systems for the palletizing and de-palletizing of books, thus implementing the countless solutions already present in our machines fleet.

Experience, know-how and the precious contribution of the Research and Development department

With over 40 years of experience and know-how accumulated over the years, we are today able to propose various robotic applications which have led to the birth of Anthropomorphic Robots that operate with our patented grippers - designed and manufactured internally - which handle the products with absolute care and caution.

All these innovative solutions would not have seen the light without the precious contribution of our Research and Development department, which designed the robots entirely.

Handling the product with the right care and awareness was the secret that guided Solema to the creation of these new robotic systems capable of being determined as a valid and perfectly integrated alternative to all the applications - already present in our catalog - used in the bookbinding industry.

The Cobot, latest creation of the Solema Robotics Division

De-palletizing a pallet of books in rows, palletizing a pallet of books in rows or simply in piles, are just some of the robotic applications that Solema has designed with the help of industrial robots.

The latest system developed in chronological order is the Cobot, a collaborative robot capable of automating the various end of lines and capable of working alongside an operator in the palletizing of book blocks, books, and boxes.

The Cobot represents a further solution that implements the unique range of machines offered by Solema.

The contract with Imprimerie Chirat, a crucial customer who immediately believed in Solema robotics

To seal what has been written so far, a recent order signed with Imprimerie Chirat, a crucial customer who has decided to rely on us once again, but this time for the purchase of a package of machines which includes a series of robotic systems that will be used to automate the workflow of the various production lines.

The agreement - obtained thanks to the contribution of our French agent Mr. Thierry Barbet of the Pixis - SMG Systems company - is confirmation of Solema's leadership in Europe and all over the world in the field of automation for the Graphic Arts.

For us this contract takes on particular importance not only thanks to the standing of the client, one of the best-known bookbinders in France, but because it includes, among the various robots, also the presence of a Cobot, which specifically for Imprimerie Chirat, will serve to palletize boxes.

Characteristics and details of the supply

Imprimerie Chirat's supply includes the following machines:

  • No. 2 Alpha 681 for depalletizing: one installed to feed a Muller Martini Alegro model perfect binding line and the second installed to feed a Kolbus hardback line
  • Nr. 1 Omega 682 for palletizing: installed at the end of the line of a Meccanotecnica Uniplex model stitcher
  • Nr. 1 Omega 693 for palletizing: in this case the robot is a Cobot installed at the end of a packaging line and which palletises boxes
  • Nr. 1 Mini Pluton for palletizing: installed at the end of the Kolbus hardboard line
