Solema supports ABB in the robotics project for Italian schools

Solema in support of ABB Robotics Division for automation through robotics: a project that is touring Italy in 44 schools.

Solema has recently actively participated in an important robotics project in partnership with ABB Robotics Division – partner of ours since 2019 – which commissioned us to create a multifunctional workbench for educational purposes for a robotic arm of their production to be installed on.

The multifunctional bench – which was named TTPSA (Teach Train Play Solema ABB) – was designed and built entirely in Solema and, once combined with the robotic arm, was tested by our technical and software offices under the supervision of Maurizio Lepori, Head of Educational ABB Robotics Italy, and of Loris Latassa, Professor of the Majorana Institute of Seriate.

The robot used for this project is called GoFa, which falls into the cobot category, a particular classification of robot designed to physically interact with humans in a workspace.

GoFa protagonist at the fair and around Italy

The GoFa system with TTPSA, once finalized, was loaded by our technicians onto a customised van and left for Florence where it was exhibited from 8 to 10 March at Didacta 2023, the largest Italian event dedicated to the world of training and a meeting point between schools and businesses.

At the end of Didacta, the system was loaded back into the van and set off – together with the ABB Robotics educational team – on a tour of Italian schools called the ABB RoboCup Tour 2023, with the task of sharing technical skills related to the evolution of smart robotics with institutes and students.

ABB RoboCup Tour: smart robotics training tailored to schools

The ABB RoboCup Tour 2023, which will end on 20 May, will reach 44 schools – distributed from Piedmont to Sicily – covering over 6500 km in 2 months and will involve more than 1000 students.

An integrated training project with the aim of promoting and developing the multidisciplinary skills required by the digital transformation, born with the aim of ‘advertising’ the cobot in schools as a tool for training students on robotic systems while sharing technical skills related to the evolution of Smart Robotics, thus giving even more value to the innovative approach of multidisciplinary training.

ABB RoboCup is also a recognized contest with a robot as the prize

But the ABB RoboCup is also a contest, an official competition recognized by the Ministry of Education in the scientific-technological field, which aims to bring students closer to robotics through playful activities that include quizzes and practical programming exercises.

All institutes participating in the contest will compete in the final which will take place on 20 May at the ABB Robotics Technology Center in Vittuone. The winning school will receive an ABB YuMi Single Arm robot on loan for use.

Solema and ABB together for the importance of robotics in businesses and schools

All over the world, robots and cobots are playing an increasingly important role in companies to make them more flexible and competitive.

Able to carry out multiple activities, ranging from packaging to precision machining, from welding to the handling of components to automation in general, Robots and Cobots guarantee improvements on many fronts: productivity, reliability, flexibility, product quality, and efficiency.

At Solema, we are aware that in order to be able to implement automation through robotics, companies need professionals with the right skills: that’s where the project and the training course of the GoFa system with TTPSA aimed at schools comes into play. We are proud to have participated in it together with our partner ABB.
