2023: another year to remember, full of anniversaries, events and spec

2023 was another year that will remain in Solema's history, as it was characterised by special anniversaries, important trade fair events, concrete commitments to environmental sustainability and the consolidation of the leadership of the Robotics Division

For Solema, the year that has just ended will be another year to remember. It was not easy to repeat the successes of 2022 - the year of the 40th anniversary of the establishment of the company - but our enthusiasm allowed us to maintain a high level of commitment and attention and finalise a series of important projects.

The 15th anniversary of Magic Box and the 10th anniversary of the Paperboard Division

2023 was also a year of important anniversaries: in fact we celebrated 15 years of Magic Box and 10 years of the Paperboard Division.

Magic Box, Solema's flagship machine, celebrated its 15th anniversary last year, after a record-breaking 2022 with 13 machines sold worldwide.
Magic Box, which was launched in 2008 with the world presentation at DRUPA in Düsseldorf, the most important international fair in the printing and bookbinding sector, remains to date the only automatic boxing machine on the Graphic Arts market.

Also in 2023, the Paperboard Division celebrated its 10th anniversary. It was 2013 when Solema acquired RODA designs, creating a new division specialised in machines for cutting and assembling folding and corrugated paperboard. In 2022, the new division reached the peak of its success by launching Uni.Co, a modular machine dedicated to cutting folding and corrugated cardboard and characterised by multiple configurations.

Two important events concerning Transition 4.0 and Robotics

The year that has just ended also saw us involved in two important events of which we were protagonists.

The first event was held in March at Despe S.p.A. in Torre de Roveri (BG) a leader in the demolition, engineering consulting, decommissioning and reclamation sectors. The event, organised by CDO Bergamo, CDO Roma and MIMIT (the Ministry of Enterprises and Made in Italy), in which many companies from the Bergamo area participated, including Solema, illustrated the prospects of the Transition 4.0 Plan, explaining in detail the benefits and tax incentives provided by the government, with a view to improving the development of the production process and the digitalisation and innovation of work.

The second event, in which Solema actively participated, was an important robotics project in partnership with ABBRobotics, which asked us to create a multifunction workbench for educational purposes on which to install a robotic arm manufactured by them.
The workbench - which was given the name TTPSA (Teach Train Play Solema ABB) - was designed at built entirely at Solema and, once combined with the robotic arm, it was tested by our technical and software departments under the supervision of Maurizio Lepori, ABB Robotics Italia Educational Manager, and Loris Latassa, Professor of the Majorana Institute of Seriate.

A concrete commitment to environmental sustainability

For Solema, 2023 was also a year characterised by strong commitment to environmental sustainability, which culminated with the installation of two photovoltaic plants: one for the Pedrengo site, consisting of 200 modules, and one for the Torre de Roveri site, consisting of 300 modules.
The annual production of the two plants is estimated at 310,083 Kwh, with higher production during the summer. This has allowed us to reduce our impact on the environment, by producing and emitting a quantity of CO2 into the atmosphere that is significantly lower than that produced with the supply used until 2022.
In our small way, we are proud to have contributed to making 2023 the record year for photovoltaic installations in the world, which reached 413 GW of power globally, compared to 240 GW in 2022.

The consolidation of leadership in the Robotics Division

But the icing on the cake of a memorable year was certainly the consolidation of Solema’s leadership also in the Robotics Division thanks to an important contract with Imprimerie Chirat, one of our customers, a protagonist in the French graphic arts market, which decided to rely on us for the purchase of a fleet of machines including a series of robotic systems among which two robots and a Cobot.

An acquisition that certifies the quality of our Robotics Division, which has been part of Solema's core business for several years and which follows the technological development of the Graphic Arts automation sector, which has led to the design of increasingly innovative solutions based on the use of Anthropomorphic Robots.
A natural evolution of the market that blends perfectly with Solema's history: the first company to expand automation in the Graphic Arts sector and, for over 40 years, an absolute reference point for the continuous demands of the market, with the best solutions in the field of industrial automation.

A leadership that is recognised all over the world and that follows a precise commercial strategy aimed at following the evolutions of an increasingly dynamic market. And a further commitment from Solema, which therefore guarantees a wide range of solutions regarding absolute automation in the Graphic Arts, Packaging and Converting sectors.

Stay tuned because the next news will be dedicated to this important acquisition in the field of Robotics.

Finally, we would like to thank all those who helped make 2023 a truly memorable year: our internal and external collaborators, our sales network, our partners, our suppliers and all of our customers, who have trusted us over the years.

A very special year for us has just ended. A goal for sure, but at the same time a new starting point. So please follow us on all our channels, in order not to miss other important news in 2024.
