The collaborative palletizing robot Solema “Omega 693” brings flexibility to the end of production lines and reduces labor costs.
The “Omega 693” cobot optimizes the finishing areas of production lines while helping to mitigate the rapidly increasing labor shortage. Consisting of a gripper, intelligent software, two pallet positions, and a laser safety system, Solema provides a modern, in-house-developed solution. Combined with the proven robotics of ABB, this palletizing system represents an ideal automation tool for many applications in the graphic arts industry.
As a long-standing and reliable partner of the graphic arts and packaging industries, Solema has been intensively involved in robotics since 2019, enhancing its already extensive machine portfolio and offering this new technology for customized market requirements.
As a collaborative robot, the “Omega 693” can pick up pile of books, magazines, packages, and other products and place them precisely on pallets. The placement on a pallet layer follows a programmed pattern selected during system setup. The innovative cobot technology reduces repetitive and intensive manual tasks, increases productivity, and ensures high stacking quality on the pallet. “Omega 693” is available in two models with payloads of 6–7 kg or up to 14 kg, offering versatile application options. Its compact design requires little space, and the integrated pick up station facilitates its incorporation into production lines. The dual pallet station allows the cobot to remain fully operational even while inserting layer sheets.
Constantly flexible deployment
Integrated transport wheels ensure that the palletizing system can be used flexibly on various production lines at any time. Whether unloading after saddle stitching lines, thread-sewing systems, or palletizing hardcover books or packaging units, the “Omega 693” helps reduce labor costs. Its safety concept is based on a laser scanner that, when the operator approaches the robot arm’s working area, first reduces speed and then, with further approach, brings the arm to a stop, ensuring maximum personal safety.
“Omega 693” is defined by two key elements: the gripper, which covers various size range of the palletizing system, and the software, which offers variable placement patterns — both developed and implemented by Solema. The gripper, which can rotate 90° and 180°, enables product stacks up to 120 mm high to be picked up at a designated point and placed on the pallet in a logical sequence. A touch panel allows users to create new layer patterns that are easily selectable and require minimal setup time. User-friendly operation simplifies interaction with the cobot, optimizing overall production efficiency.
A robotics demo center at the Solema plant in Pedrengo/Bergamo (Italy) now offers the opportunity to see the full range of (robotic) solutions, test them with your own materials, and experience them hands-on.
