The future of the graphic arts depends on interconnection and dialogue between machines and management systems. That is why all Solema machines are “Industry 4.0 Ready”
Interconnection
in Modern Bookbinding
In the bookbinding and GraphicArts industries, interconnection is an essential requirement of Industry 4.0. A modern production line is no longer merely a set of mechanically linked machines, but an integrated system in which production flows, conveying systems, processing steps and management software communicate through a continuous exchange of data between individual machines.
Only a fully integrated and interconnected line
enables effective data control, real-time monitoring and the optimisation of
production processes. The result is a more stable production flow, with
fewer micro-stoppages, balanced speeds and intelligent management of
accumulation and buffer zones.
Traceability,
Quality and Flexibility: The Benefits of Interconnection
Industry 4.0 interconnection makes it possible to track products along the entire line, monitor processing parameters, cycle times and machine stoppages, and rapidly identify any irregularities. This smart approach improves both the quality of the finished product and the overall production process.
At the same time, a perfectly interconnected
line ensures high production flexibility, efficient management of
variable run lengths and fast format changeovers – all essential in meeting the
demands of a market that increasingly seeks to avoid residual inventory.
A high level of automation also reduces manual intervention, improves
operator ergonomics and safety, and contributes to more sustainable production
while ensuring compliance with current regulations.
Solema:
“Industry 4.0 Ready” Solutions for Digital Dialogue
For Industry 4.0
interconnection to be truly effective, seamless communication between
machines and management software – whether ERP or MIS – is
essential. This is exactly where Solema machines find their ideal application:
all are designed to be “Industry 4.0
Ready”, equipped
with software capable of communicating with company management systems,
exchanging production data and integrating into complex automated lines. Being “Ready”
means providing the central system with feedback on key information such
as quantities produced, processing times, palletising and depalletising
patterns, and real-time production status – transforming all this data into
strategic tools for process
optimisation and turning machines into intelligent hubs serving any production line, whether conventional or
digital.
Packaging
Line: The Real-World
Expression of Industry 4.0
All Solema machines – from historic models such as Pluton and Venus to innovative robotic solutions – are fully “Industry 4.0 Ready”. The most advanced example of this approach is the Packaging Line: a solution developed to fully meet the requirements of Industry 4.0. It is a line made up of interconnected machines governed by a supervisory PC, which acts as a bridge between the company ERP or MIS and the PLCs of the individual machines. Within the Packaging Line system, the production order is created in the management software, converted into a master recipe and automatically distributed to each machine. During production, the system monitors parameters and operating status in real time, reporting any irregularities.
At the end of the cycle, order completion is communicated back to the management system. Packaging Line can integrate both Solema machines and those of other manufacturers, offering highly flexible solutions. Investing in an integrated Solema line means increasing competitiveness, preparing the company for technological evolution and building a solid foundation for future digital integration.
